Probably the most common and popular form of advertising nowadays is internet marketing. As we all know, the internet is used worldwide and therefore has the potential to reach millions of consumers. It runs for 24 hours a day which makes it easier for customers and advertisers around the world. More and more people are using the internet to research different products and services and to make purchases online because it is so easy. As a result, more and more companies make it a priority to establish an online presence. This is vital for their business as it helps them gain an edge over their competitors or vice versa. Although it is important for companies to gain popularity through the internet and to spread marketing and advertising campaigns online, they still have to consider that basic advertising principles still apply and should never be neglected. It is important for them to be aware of where they place their ads, who their target audience is and how to reach out to this audience.
1. Research Your Market
Business owners should put a lot of effort into research before launching an online marketing campaign. This includes hiring a good research consultant who has a great deal of experience in the field. The outcome of the research should determine the basic demographical information of the target audience and how to reach them. Although some businesses can not afford to hire research consultants, they can and should still make an effort to gain the essential information by themselves. Business owners can conduct surveys or polls from with their past and current clients to gain some information before launching their campaign. Unfortunately the results gained from this is not as in depth as the one conducted by a research consultant, however this can still provide them with a good insight on how to market their product and reach their target audience.
2. Online Marketing Campaign
Having obtained enough information, it is now time to draft a good online marketing campaign that will appeal to the target audience. There are various ways in which companies can ensure that they are reaching the right people in a way that these people can understand and can relate to. Drafting your online marketing campaign includes ways like improving the overall appearance of your website and your advertisements by making them look more appealing and interesting, for example by changing the wording and using more advanced design features such as audio and visual or interactive tools.
3. Website Appearance
The overall appearance of a website can influence the way it is viewed by your target audience. If your target audience is an older, more conservative generation, then your website’s overall theme must contain muted colors, a cleaner more simple design and large, simple graphics that that will appeal to their generation. If your target audience, on the other hand, is the younger generation with more liberal views, the overall theme of you website should include bold colors, eye catching graphics and more visually-creative design layouts.
4. Website Copy
Your website’s overall appearance is not the only thing you should worry about. The copy you put on that website is essential as well. Consider the factors that were discussed above. If the target audience is that of an older generation, the copy should not only have muted colors and a clean and simple design, it should also include facts that will back up your view points and formal language that is presentable enough to the said audience. If the target audience is that of a younger generation, the copy you put on the website can contain less formal words but more eye catching, this will help you appeal to them more. Remember to use words that relate to people’s emotions. For example, talk about the pain of a problem, relate to their feelings and then end by offering a positive solution to their problem
5. Using Audio and Video
When the website has been created for your online marketing campaign, continue to improve it and make it more appealing to your target audience. The use of audio and video clips is an excellent way of doing this. However, choosing the right clips is essential. Don’t just pick random clips. Make sure that the music videos or audio clips are related to your website’s theme. Match the tempo of the music to the type of products you’re offering. Choose video clips that help people understand your product better and relate it to how they can use your product themselves. This all adds to the excitement of your website and encourages people to stay and browse your site for longer.
Knowing your target audience is important in having a successful business online. Research your customers; find out what they want and then design your website to appeal to them. Choose appropriate marketing strategies, select your words carefully, add appropriate colors and fonts and finally, give your site that extra ‘zizz’ by adding exciting audio and video clips. This will help you improve the services you offer and gain more happy customers.
