HTML5 vs Flash: Victory or Draw?
I saw an article today in the news about HTML5 attempting to replace Flash by providing elements like video and audio which enable the web developer to allow video on their site without the need for the user to have flash plugins.
There appears to be a rivalry between some of the web’s top companies like Google, Apple, Mozilla, Opera, etc.. against allowing Flash to continue to keep such a large chunk of the market share when it comes to Rich Internet Applications. In fact, some people believe this is partly why Apple refuses to allow Flash to allow plugins for their mobile phones.
Do you think HTML5 will actually put an end to Flash, or is there no end in sight for Flash? I personally think that markup languages can’t keep anything consistent across multiple browsers, so it’ll be interesting to see how these new tags work (namely with IE).
Your thoughts?
I agree with you – it will take forever for all the browser folks to get everything working (they still haven’t managed to standardize for HTML4, and not just the IE folks).
Flash has at least another five useful years to live, if not more.
