Affiliate Marketing for Beginners – How to Create a Good Landing Page
What is a Landing Page?
With respect to affiliate marketing, a landing page is a web page that promotes a product in an effort to persuade or encourage visitors to visit the web site, through a link, where that product is being sold.
As an affiliate marketer, the more visitors to your landing page who go to the vendor’s website and purchase the product you are promoting, the more commissions you earn from the vendor for each sale. It is therefore very important to create a good persuasive landing page.
Gathering Information for Your Landing Page
Here are the best steps to acquire the main selling points and related information you will use when creating your landing page.
1. Purchase the product. Many affiliates never do this. It amazes me how so many affiliates try to promote a product based on the information on the vendor’s website alone. Most affiliates feel that it is an expense to purchase the product. This is unwise thinking. The top sales people in every industry, whether online or offline are the ones who really KNOW their products. Let me assure you, that purchasing the product you want to promote is not an expense; it is a very wise investment!
2. Use the product yourself. It makes no sense buying the product if you are not going to use it. In fact, that is the whole purpose of buying it in the first place. Whether it’s a downloadable product like an ebook or a physical product like a golf club, the experience of using the product will give you a great advantage over all other affiliates who promote the product without using it. You will actually be able to list all the benefits of the product in your own words. That brings me to the third step.
3. Make a list of all the selling points of the product from your experience. Jot down everything you like about the product. Depending on the product you are promoting, this will include things like:
- How easy the product is to use
- The amount of time you can save
- The amount of money you can earn
- How fast you can achieve positive results
- The quality of the product
- The great discount price
- How fast you received the product
4. Get screen shots or download images of the product. Most vendors will gladly allow you to download any image from their site to promote their product. Remember, “A picture paints a thousand words.” Many vendors will have additional affiliate information you can also use, free of charge. Review all the information they offer you.
5. Review the vendor’s website for additional selling points. Look at the layout of the sales page – the heading, the subheadings, the body, bulleted lists, the guarantee, the price and the call to action. Pay particular attention to the main selling points. Your landing page will be a shorter modified version of this sales page.
With all this information at hand you can now write an honest review of all the benefits one can achieve with the product.
No Website Required
The fastest way to create your landing page is on a blogging site like WordPress.com, Blogger.com, Typepad.com, Blog.com, Livejournal.com or one of the many other highly ranked sites. These blogging sites or platforms are hosted and maintained by individuals or companies. They allow you to create a free account or blog on their site. You can then write, add photos and publish information on almost any topic you wish. This gives you a great opportunity to promote products without building your own website (or blog) and the related costs of acquiring a domain name and hosting fees. For our example we will use Blogger.com, which is owned by Google.
Follow the steps below to create a blog at Blogger.com.
1. Go to Blogger.com and sign in if you already have a gmail account. If not, create one.
2. Login and click the Create a Blog button.
3. Enter a blog title related to your product which contains your keywords.
4. Enter the title as the blog address (url) and check if it is available.
5. You may be required to enter a verification word in order to proceed.
6. Next, select a template that you like and would best suit your product. Click the Continue button.
7. A screen will appear to confirm that your blog was created.
You are now ready to write your landing page.
Creating Your Landing Page
Once your account or blog has been created, click on Start Blogging and Blogger.com’s word processor will appear. This easy-to-use word processor will allow you to do some basic editing; add images, create links, change font sizes, styles and color. If you are familiar with Microsoft Word, this will be a breeze to use. Examine all the information you gathered earlier and start writing your landing page. Remember you are writing a review of the product based on your own usage and experience with it. You are not writing a sales letter since that has already been done by the vendor and you will be sending your visitors there through a link.
Your goal is here to write as though you are sending a letter to a friend about a great product you just bought and highly recommend. Let your enthusiasm and excitement show in your written copy. At the end of your review, create a link that goes to the vendor’s website. When completed, click on Publish Post to view your page. Carefully check your page for spelling and grammatical errors. Edit it if necessary.
That’s it. You are now ready to start promoting your new blog to get visitors to click on the link.
