Secondary School Entrance Exams
For over a hundred years students have been sitting down in January and June to take the 13+ Common Entrance exam to gain entrance to their chosen senior school at 13. It would seem that a lot of people move to their secondary schools at 11 now whilst many of the boys schools have remained 13 for some reason or another. Around 80% of pupils in independent prep schools take the Common Entrance exam set by the Independent Schools Examinations Board on behalf of the sector.
But before any of this actually happens the pupils along with the parents must choose the schools they may want to go after senior school. Once the exams have been completed they must then be sent off to be marked!. In terms of finding out whether or not a pass is achieved the school has the discretion. If the place is not offered in a select school then the paper is passed to the next school on the list. The annoying thing is that the pass mark actually varies from school to school. If you are really interested on what these are then make sure you contact the school.
If you are interested in searching for independent schools that match the criteria that you are after then make sure you check out the ISC website. This online school search allows you to use more specific criteria in your search for a school. You will find the search particularly useful if you have more specific criteria including:
