I’m an unsuccessful affiliate I need help?

I have been looking for ways to promote my website and promote products with and without the website.I have a few articles I placed a guzilion ads on craigslist and backpage I made a few comments on forums I squidooed and I made two sales when I first started without all the above just had about 5 ads on craigslist then and no website.
BTW I am not posting my websites here for the simple reason you all may think I’m trying to use this to promote,but no I am looking for advice from real successful affiliates not oppinions of non affiliates please.I need a good answer no fluff or silly remarks I’m new to affiliate marketing.

Hi Ron. When things get tough get back to basics. It seems like you are moving in the right direction, either way let us go through the check list.
1. You are the foundation of your marketing plan. Not your product or your website. All of that is enterchangeable(one word). But you will always be Ron. Focus on telling your story.
Do your best to tell a rags to riches story(i.e. “I am a 28 year old college dropout that works from home”) Don’t make it up, just be genuine.
2. All of your traffic needs to be driven to a lead capture page.
Which should be very simple. A headline, a video, and a place to collect info:name,phone,email. Nothing more. You can use aweber for your autoresponder. Why is this so important? You must be able to have a connection with your customers. Plus you need to track how many people “opt” in. At first I would send people to my site. But I would get frustrated when I made no sales. It is important to look at your numbers.>>>TIP OF THE DAY: Most companies will hand you a lead capture page or a replicated page, but you need to make your own. Why? Most convert like crap. In the end you are really trying to get these people to “opt” in. Hence the “offer”. You must entice people give them something,a free ebook,a conference call, at the very least free training.
That should help your click through rate.
3.Understand your target audience. The vast majority are going to be new blood. So concentrate your energy where it is needed. No forum marketing. No cold calling. Do not waste your time selling existing internet marketers. Because both of you believe you have the best system in the world. The only exception is if you are selling a much needed tool like an autoposter. In which case that opens up your audience. Also do not waste time talking to people trying to get you to join there programs. No phone calls,no visiting websites. It is an outdated technique and if they are still using it you should run,FAST!
4. Now back you. When marketing yourself people must see the value in you. They should be jumping to buy what you are selling. Here is how you get instant creditbility. Teach them something. Which sounds better “I can show you how to make money!” or “The way to get better conversion rates on Craigslist is to post a clickable image. USE ALL CAPS, and ask ??? for your headlines they will quickly grab attention and increase your clicks. Which in turn will make you more money.”
