Affiliate Small Business
How can I post a Word document to the web and create a link to it?
I write stories and recipes and have my own Affiliate websites. I don’t want to use up my pages on my small business website with lengthy text. I want to say..if you want to read this “story” click here etc..but don’t know the process of how to do it. Help!
Text files do not take up a lot of space. I would still shy away from using your business site for personal items, especially when there are many, many alternatives out there. I would also shy away from linking to Word files – any reader who does not have Word would not really appreciate it. Instead, post it as text on a web page. Let’s go over a few of the options:
A) Blog – Blogs are ideal for posting lots of text without having to worry about lots of formatting. Short stories work, as long as the reader knows to expect a lengthy read. Blogs are a great way to post recipes. Check out Word Press, Blogger, etc.
B) Personal forum – A personal forum is an unusual way to do it, but you can easily set up a free forum and it’s a great way to post lots of text , allow comments, and use your space for multiple purposes. Check out Bizhat, or Google “free forum”
C) Personal Web Site – These were all the rage a while back, but people forget that they are still offered for free by many universities (even if you are an alumni) and ISPs like Comcast and AOL, as well as Yahoo! and Google. Simply cut and paste from your Word file into a editor, or upload your Word file directly (but remember that not everyone has Word, so I don’t recommend this) and there you go.
And since someone mentioned it, D) Google Docs exists but you have to invite people to be viewers and/or collaborators. However, Google makes it easy to take files from Docs and put them on a Sites web page.
