Making a Living Off the Internet With ClickBank
Often, I am asked, “For beginners, who know nothing technical, what is the easiest way to make money or make a living off the internet?”
This is sort of a difficult question. It is because there are hundreds of ways of making a living off the internet. But when you boil it all down, maybe there are only about a dozen “core” ways of making a living off the internet, the rest I guess can be considered variations of a core theme.
If you surveyed all the people that are currently making a living off the internet, my fairly educated guess would be that most would answer that they started making a living off the internet by being an affiliate to one thing or another, or maybe several others.
What’s an affiliate? Well, to just keep it simple, an affiliate is someone who sells a product, the product belonging to someone else or another company, for a person or another company. Upon the sell, the affiliate, because they made the contact and ultimately the sell, will get a percentage of the sell as payment and reward for selling someone or some company’s product.
It goes something like this…
John Doe, a fictional person, is looking into ways of making a living off the internet when he comes across the affiliate concept. He then promotes, through advertising, email, blog, forum, and other ways, ABC Company’s Widget. Each Widget sells for $50, of which John will receive 20% of as sort of a “finders fee” for the sell of the Widget. In this case, John will make $10 for each Widget he sells. And if he sells a LOT of Widgets, he might impress the ABC Company, and ABC might even send him a bonus check, or maybe a free Widget or something.
Now that you have the concept down, you can affiliate almost anything. A lot of people affiliate for big companies, like say “Amazon.com”. Amazon has multiple products, so variety of products is a plus! However, Amazon gives out a low percentage rate for each sell. To become an affiliate making a living off the internet with Amazon would require hundreds of sales of lower cost items (like a book, cd, or dvd) or ten or so sales of an expensive item (say a HD TV or similar expensive product).
But like I said earlier, there are literally thousands of products and/or companies that you can affiliate for and start making a living off the internet with. Most people, however, started their affiliate career with the “information down loadable product giant”, also known as “ClickBank”.
Why, you ask? Well, really it all comes down to simplicity. ClickBank has set up a system where authors of down loadable information PDFs, ZIP, and RAR files supply the product. They have to purchase an account with ClickBank to be able to sell their product. When their product is listed, affiliates (who can open a free account with ClickBank) browse the products and choose products to affiliate for. If the goal is making a living off the internet, then you are going to choose several products, in niches, or maybe in a “theme” to affiliate for.
ClickBank makes it convenient and a win-win situation for the producer of the product, and the affiliate to become profitable. Click bank takes money in from 2 sources, the producer purchasing an account to sell products, and a very small percentage of each sale. But before you get all upset, this is not a significant amount. And the reason they take it is because Clickbank handles all the processing and money collection of the sales on a Very Secure system that makes purchasers comfortable. In addition, they keep track of all sales and every two weeks, they distribute money to the producer of the product, and to all the affiliates who sold the product. The producer does not have to keep track of any affiliates, or any check writing, or any payday schedules. The affiliate gets paid regularly for sales made every 2 weeks, and does not have to chase down a producer to get paid, or keep track of how many different sales from different products they have sold to be accurately paid. Not to mention, I have NEVER had a bank refuse or bounce a ClickBank check! Again, it is all about Convenience.
Many people get affiliating fairly easy. The concept is easy for anybody to start making a living off the internet. The problem is promoting is not always an easy thing. Getting started is probably the hardest part. Once you get past the procrastination, you can get something accomplished. The best part is, depending on your method, but whatever you put out on the internet will remain there until you take it down. So you could get paid on something you promoted last year!
What separates the successful from the rest? Patients and perseverance. You get all excited thinking about the money that is going to roll on in. Then you promote for 30 days, you may have a few sales, you may not have any! This is where most quit, while the successful just keep on promoting not worrying about a slow start. I have heard of people promoting for a year and not getting any sales. There is something very wrong going on in that scenario, but that could be a whole other subject. If you are not seeing a single sale after 60 to 90 days, then you need to re-assess what it is your are doing because something is not working.
My recommendation is to start out with anything, especially a ClickBank account. Choose something you are passionate about and start promoting it. You can even promote more than one thing. But in the beginning, I suggest keeping it to 3 to 5 products until you get into your groove with promotion methods. Then expand into other niches, products, and subjects. Have fun with it. Set yourself little steps or goals to reach. When you reach it, set up another. Maybe it is your first sale. Then your first $100, then your first $1000, then maybe a consistent $100 per month, then $1000 per month, etc. This is just an example, but you could very well end up being on your way to making a living off the internet with just affiliation alone.
