Affiliate Marketing Rule

Is Affiliate Marketing the Right Business For You?
The field of affiliate marketing is really a subfield of the internet advertising industry in that both are offering the same service, but advertisers are generally paid upfront for the exposure or for the number of visitors they refer to the site while the affiliate is paid on the back end generally when the customer they referred ends up buying something. There is no difference to the customer, but to the company there is a big difference. First, with an affiliate program, the cost risk is transferred to the affiliate rather than the company. The company does not have to worry about their advertizing costing more than they actually make because the advertizing cost is always a fixed percentage of their profit. Because of this, most companies selling products on the internet use affiliate marketing. It is a great way to get links to their site and a great way to manage advertizing risk.
For the affiliate it is also a great opportunity because they can make money without having to sell inventory, work with customers, or do any of the work that usually takes so much of a business’s time and money. Thus, the affiliate program is considered one of the easiest ways to make money online. However, easy is a misnomer that must be clarified. Affiliate marketing is one of the simplest concepts for making money, but like all business ventures, it requires commitment, consistency, and patience to be successful.
Affiliate marketing follows the 80-20 rule in that twenty percent of affiliates make eighty percent of the money. This same rule of thumb can be found in network marketing, multi-level-marketing and other similar models, but what people don’t understand is that this is the same rule for all businesses. Only the top 20% truly succeed in their endeavors no matter what they may be, because they have the dedication and perseverance to stick with it and seize opportunities. It can be even harder with affiliate marketing because it is a simple business model that can readily be done from home. Because it can be done from home and is so flexible that it does not require specific time commitments, it is a business that can be very easily neglected. So if you lack the drive to motivate yourself then affiliate marketing, like any other business is probably not going to achieve high levels of success. The model is nice in that anyone can make at least some money. The very fact that a site exists and contains content will generally lead to some traffic and sales over time, but to be a real lifelong success, this business must be treated like a business.
If you have wanted to start an online business for some time and are looking for a way to make money online, affiliate marketing is a great way to start. I generally recommend it be used as a stepping stone to more profitable business models, but the person who knows very little about the internet and cannot commit a consistent amount of time each week, this is a great way to get started, but if you honestly find yourself mired in a lack of motivation each night upon entering your home, the affiliate marketing may not be worth the time, you are probably better off getting a second job and use the funds to hire someone else to build your online business.
