Affiliate Marketing Explained
Affiliate Marketing is a way of promoting on-line business through affiliate programs and advertising that pay the associate (or publisher) a type of commission based on the amount of business their website brings the merchant company.
It’s a form of revenue sharing or commission based advertising. The term “affiliate marketing,” however, is often affiliated with network marketing or multi-level marketing and consequently many companies choose to use the term “performance marketing”. Affiliate marketing is the most cost effective sort of marketing there is, and is actually incredibly efficient.
For this reason, some companies (especially those that started out in the early days of e-commerce) owe a large amount to affiliate marketing (amazon.com is a good example) and it has now become normal for companies to include affiliate marketing in many of their plans.
There are 3 types of compensation methods that are linked up with affiliated marketing. The first type is Cost per Click (CPC) or Cost per Mil (CPM.) Basically, the affiliate earns by how many clicks the advertising on his/her site gets, or by just having the advert published on the web site. But because of click fraud and many other suspect tactics, CPC is no longer the general form used for affiliate marketing.
By And Large, companies now either use CPA (Cost per Action) or CPS (Cost per Sale.) The first is set on how much the advert generates interest by the clicker to actually buy or register at the advertised site, the 2nd is based strictly on sales. In other words, an affiliate is paid if the clicker actually purchases something on the promoted site.
There are also what are called “Recurring” affiliate programs where you get paid a commission on a pre-scheduled base. This could be a yearly basis or even a weekly basis and it all counts on the way the product or service owner sets their affiliate program up.
When choosing which type of affiliate program to promote, keep in mind that a recurring commission means you get paid-up the same amount on going for the same referred person you sent to their site. So, if you refer 100 people and 10 of those people buy a recurring product, you will get paid for those same 10 people over and over again till they fall out of the product or service they bought.
In general, you will see recurring affiliate programs linked with companies like hosting services, membership sites and services that have monthly fees tied to them.
Becoming an affiliate marketer is a hot choice, and something you need to look at as a real home based business in order to see the success level you are searching for.
Remember, we’re only as prosperous as we let ourselves be – this goes with being an affiliate marketer as well.
