Should the American Kennel Club?
Ok, so we all know that the AKC registration is a very serious dog. Reputable breeders breed with the AKC show connected for temperament, health and conformation. What I would like to know is, it should be required for these breeders, even necessary, in order not show only to have their dogs, but to test their dogs' instincts? (Without fighting breeds), which means to show not only for race but for what the dog's original Purposes such as hunting, guarding, herding, retrieving, flushing, ect. were? In my opinion, would be great, because the dogs would not only look good in the ring, they would also able to do what was their original function. What are your guys' thoughts / opinions? Interesting points that you have all, I had no idea how much work should be included.
The AKC is sponsoring field trials, hunting, breeding, lure coursing, and earthdog competitions. Apart from the ability to work is primarily the individual breed clubs and other groups tested. The demand sounds breeders working ability test as a good idea, but it's probably not very practical. For a Thing, the AKC recognizes 163 breeds, bred to should serve a variety of purposes, it would be very difficult and expensive to keep events in order to test them all. Plus, as you note, some of these purposes are so cruel today. Others could endanger the dog. Some breeds were bred specially for companion – it is difficult to test this. Another problem is that there is often a rivalry between work and show breeders. (Ask anyone breeds, Border Collies or German Shepherds, for example). Some breeds have so much variation between show and working lines, if both conformation and field titles were needed, it would be almost impossible for any Dog to do it.
