Law Suit against Newspaper?
My family owns a motel and recently there was a gang affiliated shootout that happened in our motel. T.V. crews came and took pictures and news casters came and over exaggerated the situation. The next day on the Californian the front page had a picture of our motel and the article. Because of this, 5 people today that wanted rooms left because of what they read on the newspaper. I’m not just assuming that’s the reason because I asked them and they answered that it was due to what they read on the newspaper.
Is there anyway we can file a law suit against them or get any compensation for the bad reputation they put on the motel? This affects our business and hurts us financially.
I would like to hear your opinions and maybe some examples of similar situations.

A defamation action is not favored case by most jurisdictions in the U.S. Instead, you consider a public image advertising campaign to rebuild the good name of your family’s motel. Place ads in trade journals who may have conferences in your town.
